Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750) is the greatest German composer of the 18th century, who created unsurpassed works in many genres and for various compositions (from solo pieces to vocal and symphonic scores). Clavier compositions by J. S. Bach are very popular today - and are considered as classic examples of outstanding polyphonic technique.
Partitas for clavier - six works, according to the catalog BWV No 825-830 - the highest, final achievement of J.S. Bach in the suite genre. They were created by the composer, presumably in the first half of the 1720s, published from 1726 to 1730, and called the German name "partite" (and not the French word "suite"). They are among the most performed clavier works by J. S. Bach.
Due to numerous requests from teachers, partitas are now being published in two notebooks and with a reduced commentary apparatus compared to a more complete deluxe edition. The publication is based on the study of the original copies of the first, lifetime editions of the second part of the Clavier Exercises, located in the libraries and archives of Germany, Austria and England.
All performance instructions are given in strict accordance with the original, lifetime printing and its handwritten edits.
Partitas by J.S. Bach are now included in the concert repertoire of pianists all over the world. They are also performed in the classroom - in music schools and lyceums (middle and senior classes), in music colleges, conservatories.
In the course of musical literature, individual partitas are studied as examples of a dance suite of the 18th century, and the pieces included in them are studied as examples of the corresponding dance genres.
