The damper mutes the sound of the strings, which is essential when playing legato, tapping, studio recordings and in many other cases.
The damper is a soft pad on tape with velcro.
It is easily fixed around the neck of the instrument, not stretched.It effectively dampens unwanted overtones and noise of the strings.

MD-S small — for 4 string bass guitars, 6 string acoustic and electric guitar, ukulele.
MD-M medium for 5 string bass guitars, classical guitar.
