Stanislav Yaroshevsky (b. 1985) is the author of three Fantasias for flute and piano on the themes of three operas of the 19th century ("Faust" by C. Gounod, "Otello" by G. Verdi and "Prince Igor" by A. Borodin). The first of these is presented in the edition you are holding in your hands.
The idea of a virtuoso fantasy for flute and piano on themes from Charles Gounod's opera "Faust" arose at the end of 2009. During 2010 the fantasy was finished. The premiere took place on February 11, 2011 in the Chamber Hall of the Moscow Philharmonic, performed by the author and Svetlana Tarnorutskaya (piano).
Since then, fantasy has firmly entered the pedagogical and performing repertoire of flutists in various cities of Russia and abroad. This work was also performed at competitions and concerts in Italy, France, Great Britain and Germany. And in 2017, one of the graduates of the Paris Conservatory included her in her final exam.
