Alexander Naumovich Kolker (born in 1933) is a composer, author of musicals, operettas, music for theater productions and films. He wrote more than 100 songs, many of which were widely known and performed by popular singers and actors.
The trilogy based on the plays by A. V. Sukhovo-Kobylin stands out in particular in Kolker's work: the musicals "Krechinsky's Wedding" (1972), "The Case" (1976) and the opera-farce "Death of Tarelkin" (1983).
Death of Tarelkin was first staged by G. A. Tovstonogov on the stage of the Bolshoi Drama Theater in Leningrad in 1983.
