Valery Aleksandrovich Gavrilin (1939–1999) - Russian composer, author of music for four ballets, large vocal and symphonic works, works for unaccompanied choir (including the monumental symphony-action "Chimes"), dozens of pieces for piano in two and four hand, many songs and romances, several vocal cycles, chamber works, music for films and dramatic performances.

For me, everything in life is music. Movements of the human soul,
desires, memory, hands, bodies, deeds - all music - bad or good.
Valery Gavrilin

Gavrilin wrote piano pieces throughout his career. Bright and characteristic four-hand pieces are well known to pianists and music lovers. Pieces for piano two hands have significantly enriched the pedagogical repertoire.
Everything in this music is simple and complex at the same time. The beginning musician finds in these pieces a mood that is understandable to him, an easy-to-remember melody, and a texture that is comfortable for the hands. Children love to play Gavrilin. Gavrilin's plays themselves often resemble children's games. Adults find a "double bottom" in this music. They, sophisticated and not so sophisticated, hear in it a sly echo with classical examples.
Gavrilin's music - outwardly so simple, "small", all in plain sight - grows before our eyes and turns out to be big, strong, almost bottomless.
The collection of pieces by Valery Gavrilin for piano is recommended for teachers and students of children's music schools as a teaching aid.
