Rodion Konstantinovich Shchedrin (b. 1932) - Soviet and Russian composer, pianist, music teacher, public figure; one of the leading masters of contemporary music, the author of major works, including operas, ballets, symphonies, choral and instrumental works.
"Notebook for Youth" by Rodion Shchedrin, included in this issue of the "Musical Collection" series, continues the tradition of collections of piano miniatures for children and youth, dating back to Robert Schumann, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Sergei Sergeevich Prokofiev and other composers. At the same time, Shchedrin enriches the figurative sphere characteristic of such cycles with themes devoted to the history of Russia and Orthodox culture. The idea of "Notebook...", according to the author, is also connected with the idea of a closer acquaintance of novice musicians with modern musical language and methods of its notation.
Each play "Notebooks for Youth" sets certain educational and instructive tasks for the performer and at the same time represents a complete musical and artistic image.
