Europe has been collecting its Christmas songs for centuries from different countries and continents. They sound everywhere performed by adults and children on the days before Christmas, at Christmas and on New Year's Eve.
Each edition of the "Christmas and New Year" series contains popular songs performed at Christmas concerts by the Chamber Orchestra of the University of Latvia under the direction of Guntis Kljavins. The scores of these and many other songs were arranged by pianist Galina Mamon for various performing ensembles (for voice, piano, violin, cello, double bass, flute) and are successfully used in concert and teaching practice.
One of the publications of the "Christmas and New Year" series is a songbook that includes chord symbols (suitable for singing with piano or guitar accompaniment), as well as foreign and Russian lyrics. Acquaintance with Christmas songs in Russian became possible thanks to the poetic translations by Leonid Mikhelev, the author of the series of books "The Bible in Verses", poetic novels and poems.
The performance of Christmas songs at school, family holidays and in any interested audience is a great incentive for active music lessons.
